safety car regulation

The ADAC SimExpo 2023 GT500 will feature a Safety Car. The iRacing Safety Car system will be used.

The Safety Car will be called out entirely at the discretion of Race Control. The purpose of the Safety Car is to neutralize the race temporarily in the event of a significant crash that involves multiple cars or poses risk for further incidents on track if the race is not neutralized quickly.

Drivers must follow the commands given by iRacing during the Safety Car period.

Wave-arounds will only be given to lapped cars if the leader comes into the pits and there are lapped cars in-between the Safety Car and the new leader. Any lapped cars that are behind cars on the lead lap will not be given wave-arounds during Safety Car periods.

Important Notice: Penalties cannot be served during the Safety Car procedure. This applies to all forms of penalty. Any team who serves a penalty during Safety Car procedure will be made to serve the penalty again in full once racing resumes.

time penalty procedure

The ADAC SimExpo 2023 GT500 regulations allow for time penalties to be issued to competitors by the Stewards if found at fault for incidents.

As iRacing itself does not support time penalties to be served automatically, instead teams must serve them manually. To do so, the following flow will be in use:

  • Team is issued time penalty
  • Team serves the penalty the next time they come into the pit lane (or post-race if no pit stops are to be served)
  • Team must serve penalty before going to their box, by stopping in the designated penalty area
  • Team must manually count the time stopped
  • Upon completion of the penalty, the team must contact the Race Director and wait for confirmation from the Race Director that the penalty has been cleared
  • Upon contact from the team, the Race Director will check that the penalty has been served correctly at the earliest convenience
  • If the penalty has been served correctly, the Race Director will inform the team that the penalty has been served successfully
  • If the penalty has been served incorrectly, the Race Director will inform the team that the penalty has been served unsuccessfully and provide additional instruction. E.g:
    • If the full penalty duration was not served then the team must come into the pit lane again to serve the remaining time
    • If the penalty was not served in the designated penalty box area, the penalty must be served again in full

Important Notice: Penalties cannot be served during the Safety Car procedure. This applies to all forms of penalty. Any team who serves a penalty during Safety Car procedure will be made to serve the penalty again in full once racing resumes.
