🏁 NZR iRacing 6 Hours of Nürburgring – Championship Rule Set

Event Overview
The NZR iRacing 6 Hours of Nürburgring is a team-based, multi-class endurance race hosted on the Nürburgring Grand Prix circuit. This rule set governs all aspects of participation, from registration to race-day conduct, and must be followed by all teams and drivers.

1. General Event Information

  • Track: Nürburgring VLN Layout (iRacing version)

  • Duration: 6 hours (360 minutes)

  • Server Settings:

    • Weather: Realistic / Dynamic (subject to confirmation)

    • Damage Model: Full

    • Cautions: Local only

    • Fast Repairs: None

    • Start Type: Rolling Start

Note: All cars must use the current iRacing Balance of Performance (BoP) specifications.

3. Entry Requirements

  • Team Size: Minimum 1 driver, maximum 6 per team

  • Minimum iRating: 1000 average per team (subject to review)

  • Registration: Must be completed before the deadline via Sim grid

  • Car Selection: First-come, first-served basis – maximum class/team caps may apply

  • Livery Submission: Optional but encouraged – deadline set one week prior to race

4. Driver Stints & Regulations

  • Minimum Drive Time per Driver: 60 minutes

  • Maximum Drive Time per Driver: 3 hours

  • Stint Duration: No hard limit, but drivers must switch according to min/max rules

  • Driver Swaps: Must occur during pit stops only using iRacing’s built-in swap function

  • Infractions: Breach of drive time rules may result in team disqualification or time penalties

5. Qualifying Format

  • Session Type: Private team-based qualifying

  • Date & Time: [1:30 pm NZST]

  • Duration: 20 minutes per class

  • Rules:

    • One driver per team sets a time

    • No tire or fuel restrictions

    • Track limits enforced strictly – off-tracks invalidate laps

6. Race Start Procedure

  • Formation Lap: Controlled by iRacing pace car

  • Start Type: Rolling Start

  • Pole Position: Left or right side of track depending on class grid

  • Jump Starts / Early Acceleration: Will be penalized by race control or iRacing system

7. Pit Stops

  • Fuel and Tire Changes: Allowed during stops

  • Driver Swaps: Must occur while the car is stopped in the box

  • Pit Lane Speed Limit: Enforced by iRacing

  • Unsafe Pit Exit/Entry: May result in penalties

8. Incident Limits

  • Incident System: Live stewarding plus automated iRacing penalties

  • Soft Cap: 50x – Warning issued

  • Hard Cap: 75x – Drive-through penalty

  • Final Cap: 100x – Team disqualification

  • Single-Car Incidents: Assessed individually by stewards

9. Live Race Control

  • Race Stewards: Live during the event

  • Reporting System:

    • Teams may report incidents via a provided Discord or Google Form

    • Reports must be made within 10 minutes of the incident occurring

  • Investigation Results:

    • Penalties announced in-race or post-race, depending on complexity

    • Steward decisions are final

10. Penalties

Types of Penalties Include:

  • Warning: Minor infraction, no time loss

  • Drive-Through: For unsportsmanlike conduct, reckless driving

  • Stop-and-Go (with time): For significant avoidable contact or repeated offenses

  • Time Penalty (post-race): For infractions near race end

  • Disqualification: For exceeding incident caps, cheating, or gross misconduct

11. Driver Conduct & Etiquette

  • Respect Other Classes: Faster classes must pass safely; slower classes must maintain predictable lines

  • Blue Flags: Informational only; not mandatory to yield

  • Track Limits: iRacing limits enforced + steward review for repeated abuse

  • Sportsmanship: Aggressive, abusive, or toxic behavior will not be tolerated – may result in removal

12. Technical Requirements

  • Internet Connection: Stable and consistent connection required

  • Hardware: Minimum system specs per iRacing guidelines

  • Voice Comms: Teams must be reachable via Discord in case of urgent race control communication

  • Spotters: Optional but encouraged for multi-class traffic awareness

13. Red Flag & Server Issues

  • Server Failure or Disconnection:

    • If within the first 10% of the race: full restart

    • Between 10–75%: race resumes from last complete lap, time-adjusted

    • Beyond 75%: race may be declared finished depending on the leader's status

  • Mass Disconnects / iRacing Outage: Handled by race control discretion

  • Red Flag Conditions: Only used in extreme cases; time paused manually by race admin

14. Post-Race Review

  • Provisional Results: Posted within 1 hour of race finish

  • Final Results: Released within 24 hours after review of reports and penalties

  • Protests: Teams may file a protest up to 1 hour after the race for unresolved issues

  • Replays: All teams encouraged to save local replay files for evidence

15. Prizes & Recognition

  • Trophies / Digital Awards for:

    • Class Winners (SP9, SP10, CUP 2)


  • Media Coverage:

    • Live-streamed event with commentary and race overlays

    • Podium interviews post-race

    • Featured photos and highlights shared via the NZR Discord

16. Disclaimers

  • Rule Adjustments: NZR reserves the right to update rules prior to the event

  • Participation: Entry is a privilege; bad behavior may result in bans from future events

  • Final Authority: Race directors have final say on all disputes, decisions, and interpretations
